Tips to Help the New Bodybuilder Get Started

By Richard Mason

Although awe-inspiring, bodybuilders for many years were considered to be amazing physical specimens, yet not something that people would want to be. However, things have changed significantly as obesity takes the world by storm and the health benefits of bodybuilding are coming to light. This article will provide some useful tips on how to properly do bodybuilding, and also some things that you should avoid in order to be successful.

One of the more popular thoughts in recent years in regard to staying healthy is reducing your carbohydrate intake, yet without this, you will not succeed in bodybuilding. When building muscles, glycogen is necessary, specifically in regard to building your core muscles, therefore carbs are necessary to be successful when bodybuilding.

Your post workout (PWO) nutrition is very important in regards to getting an amazing body. This is because right after a workout the body is in shock and will absorb nutrients more rapidly, in an attempt to recover from the strain it has been put under. Gaining more muscle is possible by higher levels of protein synthesis in the body, which experts have said can be increased by taking a protein shake post work out. Whey protein is generally preferred due to the fact that it is a fast acting protein, allowing the body to absorb it at a much faster rate. Muscles are built and repaired with protein, which is why getting high rates of protein absorption is important. Also some people have discovered that straight after intense exercise they can't eat solid food, which is another good reason for taking a protein shake.

Sometimes it's hard to keep track of which foods are good for us and which are bad. In the 1980s, fat was the culprit. Now foods that are high in carbohydrates seem to be what we should avoid. Eating more carbohydrates each day than your body needs for fuel can lead to fat build up on your body. Normally, your insulin secretion is sufficient to transport the glucose from the carbs into your muscle cells, but if you happen to be insulin resistant, or sensitive, this doesn't happen. Reducing the amount of carbs you ingest each day only makes sense if you are extremely obese and need to get rid of a lot of body fat. If you already have an exercise routine you do on a daily basis, some carbohydrates are needful and beneficial. If you want to know how many carbs are permissible, calculate your lean body mass and, if your body fat level is less than 25% you can consume 0.75 - 1 gram of carbohydrates per lean body mass pound. The key, though, is to really be strength training religiously or your cabs will simply turn into fat.

If you want to get lean and have a six pack, then you need to forget about alcohol. While it doesn't actually get stored as fat, it is metabolized much like carbohydrates, becoming the body's primary source for fuel. What does this mean? It means that the fat you are trying to shift to get rid of that soft look will happily stay where it is until all the alcohol is used up. Another good reason to keep away from alcohol is that a number of studies have shown that alcohol can make you lose muscle strength, as well as suppress the libido. Is it really worth a weekend of being drunk for wasting all of your hard work? If you're serious about getting ripped, though, then ditch the alcohol.

Doing too much, or overtraining, is a common mistake made by those new to bodybuilding. They want to get as big as possible as quickly as possible, so they throw everything they have at their workouts. They do not realize they can become injured and also lose their desire even try by overloading themselves in this way.

Compound exercises will help you grow more quickly as they utilize a number of different muscles. Exercises like dead lifts, squats and bench press are very good at helping to add mass rather than doing isolated movements as they usually only work on the slow twitch fibers that are good for strength, not size. When going to the gym do lots of compound exercises to ensure you make the most from your time spent there. You will need to change things around to keep making progress at the gym, so monitoring your progress to see where you're falling behind is a good idea.

You will certainly get back what you put in from bodybuilding so it's definitely worth it. All you need to do now is follow the advice from this article and you'll soon be building your ideal physique.
